Hey, my fellow writers! I went to a Free Write Writers Group in August. I wrote three short stories based on the prompts we were given. Enjoy!
Rain
I always loved the smell of rain. It filled me up with joy and happiness. I loved to dance in the rain. You would watch me and smile. I loved your smile. It made me feel so seen and adored. Little did I know you would cause rain to fall in my heart, and I would stop dancing. Little did I know that the sunlight in your smile would bring a desert in my relationships. It’s been so many years since I’ve seen you. I’m starting to dance in the rain again. The smell of the rain makes my spirit sour.. And I don’t think of you anymore. When it rains, I rememer my youth I once thought was gone, which is sparkling back to life with new dreams and hopes for the future.
No Certainty
“There’s no certainty,” she said as she stirred the pot of soup, cooking in front of her.
I sighed. “You always say that.”
I kicked off my shoes and sat in front of the fireplace. The heat from the fire felt warm on my toes. I wished she would give me better advice. It was hard being the leader of our clan.
“If you choose to do this, my sight tells me there are several different paths that will open up,” she said.
“Yes,” I answered. “And you won’t tell me which one will end in a better future for our people,” I said with annoyance. “The rules of your magic are inconvenient for everyone but you. I’m tired of listening to your drivel. I will do what I need to do to save our people.”
She said quietly, “It is your right, my lord.”
The Lone Wolf
Adam knew he was a werewolf, but he lived as a human for as long as he could, not wanting to have his first kill that would cause the change. If his brother hadn’t killed his human family on their father’s orders, he would have stayed human. However, revenge entered his heart, and he killed the first person he was able to get his hands on and swallowed their heart. His animal hunger had been controlled by animal hearts. Now his body seemed to sing with the human heart now working its way through his body. His inner animal began wagging its tail in happiness. The beast was no longer caged. Now Adam hunted his brother and father. Yet he knew even though their hearts might cure his hunger, it would not heal the pain in his heart left by the loss of his human family.
Hope you enjoyed the Free Write story snippets! Until next time!
